DIRTcar Sportsman Series to Kick off 50th Jubilee Season at Can-Am

After Mother Nature spoiled the party for the Thunder in the Thousand Islands Weekend, it’s nothing but clear skies and sunshine in the forecast for this coming Friday night to kick off this historic season.

The DIRTCar Sportsman North Regional Series will feature some of the top stars in the division from Canada to Central New York for a 30 lap contest. Dave Rogers has won the last two series races in a row and will look to win a fourth overall this coming Friday night.

Four time consecutive track champion Tyler Corcoran will look for a great start to his title defense and will also be seeking a fourth Series win at Can-Am, but many drivers like Mike Fowler, Gavin Eisle, Brennan Moore, Jessica Power and others will be looking for opening night paydirt. Last year Ryan Shanahan notched the opening day win, however plenty of outside invaders will look to spoil the party. The DIRTCar Sportsman division at Can-Am this year is once again sponsored by Bob Johnson Auto Group.

Tim Fuller is seeking a fourth straight Whitesboro Plow Shop DIRTCar 358 Modified track championship and will be seeking yet another opening day win. However Billy Dunn, Jordan McCreadie, Shaun Shaw, Lance Willix and many others will look to stop the dominance of the Hall of Famer. Willix, the reigning Hoosier Tire Weekly Racing Series Champion for the DIRTCar 358 Modified division, took the opener, after charging through the field and going from third to first with only a few laps remaining to score the win one year ago.

The Panther Frameworx Crate Sprint Car division has been owned the last two seasons by Josh Verne Jr. The Theresa New York driver posted 6 wins in 8 events at Can-Am and finished no worse than second all year to take his second track title. Tucker Donath, Picton Ontario native Andrew Hennessy, Quebec star Bruno Richard, Michael Cousins and Tiger Chapman all showed speed at the end of the season and will look to take the title from Verne in 2024.

Domination was the word to describe Francis White’s 2023 season in the Sundance Leisure ThunderCar ranks at Can-Am. White claimed 4 wins, 5 runner up finishes and a worse finish of third to win the title by 80 points over Steve Smith, with Damien Bechler, OJ White and Anthony St. Mary Jr. completing the top 5 in points. All are seeking to catch White for this year’s crown.

The Donath Motorworx Limited Sportsman will have plenty of new talent in the class this year as Keegan Nier and Dylan Moore are moving on to the Bob Johnson Auto Group Sportsman division, which leaves the class open for many new winners in 2024.

Pit gates will open at 4pm with drivers meeting at 5:45pm. Hot laps and time trials will begin at 6pm with the first green flag flying on the 50th Golden Jubilee season at 7pm. You won’t want to miss this historic season, as we go green on Friday night!
