Jamie Ball- First Knoxville Raceway Win
(White Lightning Motorsports) – May 19, 2010 –
The third night of racing would go well for the Delta Oil #5J. On Friday May 14, 2010 Jamie would take part in a private track rental at the Knoxville Raceway. This was very valuable for Jamie as he was able to get extremely comfortable in his 360 sprint car. Some of his fastest laps would be as low as 16.0 seconds. So overall the track rental was very valuable as Jamie was able to come out of the night with confidence.
Night number three would start out with Jamie drawing a #18 pill for the 305 heat line up and a #48 pill to line up his spot in 360 time trials/hot laps. This week the track decided to keep the group time trials but to do them in conjunction with the 360 hot laps. Jamie would go out in the last group and his best time would be a 17.624. That time would earn Jamie the 30th position in qualifying. After qualifying it was time for the 305 heat race. This would prove to be the highlight of the entire night and of Jamie’s sprint car career. Jamie would line up in 4th position to start the heat. Jamie would jump out to the early lead coming off of turn two on lap one and never look back, winning the heat in dominating fashion. Jamie would line up in 8th position and he would go on to finish 7th. The next event would be the 360 B-Main where the Delta Oil #5J would be scheduled to line up in 13th position. Jamie would pass a few cars and get up to around 10th before trying a few different lines and falling back to 14th where he would go onto finish. Next up would be the 305 A-Main where Jamie would start on the pole. The start was good and Jamie would constantly run in the top 5 for the first half of the race, than due to the slick conditions Jamie struggle and would fall back to 7th which is where he would finish in the 305 A-Main. Overall the night was a success. Jamie was able to get his first ever race win at the Knoxville Raceway in the 305 heat race. Each night Jamie is getting faster and more comfortable and the future looks bright for this young gun.
After the race Jamie commented on the night saying, “Last night’s (Friday) track rental really helped me a lot to feel comfortable going full throttle. We put Randy Smith in the car and he was really able to teach me a lot of the feel of the car. Overall tonight was a huge success. It was a dream come true to win a heat race at the Knoxville Raceway. We are really looking forward to next week’s race”
A few more notes about the team:
White Lightning Motorsports has decided to have one of the best sprint car drivers in Knoxville Raceways history drive the Delta Oil #5J in the Masters Classic. That driver will be Randy Smith. Randy won the event two years ago and we are very confident in his abilities. The Masters Classic will be on Friday June 4, 2010.
Also Jamie and his family feel that education is very important. It’s important to have a backup plan if racing doesn’t pan out. As of May 18, 2010 Jamie has successfully completed his Associates of Applied Science in Business Administration Sales & Marketing at AIB College of Business. He will continue his education and pursue his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.
Jamie is ready for this weekend. This Saturday Jamie will race his 360 in the Knoxville Championship Cup Series Night #4 - BUDWEISER Night.
