Wood Set for 40th annual Winter Nationals at Devil’s Bowl Speedway
Inside Line Promotions – AUBURN, Calif. (Oct. 15, 2013) – Cole Wood has taken advantage of the past couple of weeks off to study his next challenge.
The 40th annual Winter Nationals at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, looms this weekend, which kicks off four consecutive weeks of Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour competition to close the season.
“I’ve been watching a ton of videos,” he said. “I watched all of the Lucas Oil (Production) stuff and a bunch of the stuff from Devil’s Bowl to get ready for this next race coming up.”
Wood improved dramatically from his first to second times racing at the technical track this season. After missing a transfer by one position in the spring event, Wood claimed a heat race and finished 13th in the feature during the summer race.
“We’ve had some decent runs there,” he said. “It’s kind of unique in the shaping and banking. Every lap that you get to run around that place will make you more comfortable for your next one.”
The goal is to continue improvement. While a top 10 would do the trick, Wood is aiming higher.
“Honestly, I’d love to get another top five,” he said. “We’ve got a couple of them this year. I’m really shooting for top fives and podiums.”
