Inside Line Promotions – TULARE, Calif. (Oct. 12, 2015) – Chase Johnson is looking for his luck to turn around this weekend during the 22nd annual Trophy Cup.
Johnson will return to his family car for the marquee event at Thunderbowl Raceway Thursday through Saturday.
“I’m really excited for this weekend,” he said. “It’s definitely the West Coast’s premier event so there are a lot of eyes and attention on the event. It’s a great event. This will be my fourth try at it. I’m looking forward to it and hope we can put together a consistent weekend.”
Johnson is coming off a disappointing outing at the track last Saturday, when he piloted a sprint car for Shawn and Cyndi Thomas with the King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series.
“It was a really tough night, one of the toughest we’ve had all year,” he said. “Right out of the box in hot laps the car didn’t feel right at all. The motor just wasn’t really there and we had quite a bit of a vibration.”
The team searched for the problem throughout the night without finding a solution.
“We did a qualifying lap, but we had the same problem as in hot laps,” he said. “It was really, really far off the pace. At the same time the car came out of gear going into turn one on the second lap.”
Johnson qualified 24th quickest. He then took the green flag before pulling off the track during his heat race and the B Main.
“We went through the entire car throughout the night and could not figure out what the issue is,” he said. “We now have some idea what it might be. They are going to talk to the motor guys trying to figure it out. It was a big bummer.”

SPONSOR SPOTLIGHT – Newman Freeman Racing
During the 1976 auto racing season, actor Paul Newman became interested in forming a professional auto racing team and contacted Bill Freeman from Santa Barbara. Freeman is credited as the man who introduced Newman to professional auto racing management and their company specialized in Can-Am, Indy Cars and other high performance racing automobiles.
“The reason Paul Newman got into racing was because of a guy named Bill Freeman,” Johnson said. “Bill hasn’t really been involved in racing since Paul’s death so we really appreciate his support and partnership.”
Johnson would also like to thank Johnny Franklin’s Mufflers, PitStopUSA.com, Shifty Illusions, Napa Auto Parts, Flowmaster, Don’s Truck Repair, VSR, Fast Lube Plus, K&N Filters, Oroville Cycle, I-Wear Graphix, Driven Raceway, Nor-Cal Transmission, Justin Henry Racing and Chevron Pro-Gas for their continued support.
