Henry Caps Off FAST Series Weekend Sweep

FREMONT, Ohio – A weekend away from the seat of a sprint car seems to be just what the doctor ordered for one Bellevue, Ohio driver. With both of his weekly tracks not hosting 410 sprint cars on May 8-9, Cap Henry took the opportunity to do some kart racing. Then, he set northwestern Ohio on fire, winning at both Attica Raceway Park on Friday and Fremont Speedway on Saturday, closing the gap in the chase for the Fremont-Attica Sprint Title. Notably, he did so when the All Star Circuit of Champions was off for the weekend, with many of their drivers in action at Attica and Fremont.
Friday commenced with 29 cars in the Attica pit area for 410 sprint competition. Henry would start inside row three in the first of four, eight-lap heat races, and began navigating his way up front. He pulled off a pass on the last lap to take the runner-up spot.
Going from outside row two for the 30-lap main event, it wouldn’t take Henry long to show his muscle from his Level Performance engine. Moving into second on the opening lap, he soon roared by five-time All Star champion Dale Blaney to take the lead on the second trip around the third-mile. Not going away, however, Blaney would mount numerous charges against Henry over the next several laps. While earning some breathing room, Henry had his challenger remaining within five car lengths. A caution on lap ten and subsequent restart saw much of the same over the next ten laps, with Blaney hanging tight but unable to strike. Approaching lapped traffic, Henry, who had preferred the bottom for much of the race, began to test the waters on the high side of the speedway. He found something he liked, and continued on the cushion wherever possible. It was in lapped traffic that he was able to pull away and secure the victory, winning by a margin of 1.173 seconds.
Saturday night’s affairs at Fremont started with qualifying action, with Henry finding speed early. Going fifth-quick with a 12.921-second circuit, paired with the top-six invert for each of four heat races slated Henry to again start fifth in the first of four heat races. Similarly to Friday, Henry finished in the second spot, but this time, it only took him three laps to get there. Earning a spot in the night’s dash event to determine the starting order for the front three rows of the feature, Henry was again headed forward, getting to second on the opening lap, where he’d finish.
Starting on the front row for the 30-lap nightcap, Henry and polesitter Dean Jacobs would battle wheel-to-wheel for several laps, with Jacobs maintaining the advantage. Henry edged ahead on lap 11, but soon had company, with FAST Series points leader Byron Reed zeroing in on the Genzman No. 53. Reed would rally by at the halfway point, but Henry stuck to the inside line to recapture the top spot. Just as Henry was about to encounter the tail end of the field, the caution waved with 18 laps in the books when Jacobs and Blaney made contact. Another caution two laps later would prove to be the final yellow, with Henry fending off attempts from Reed in the remaining laps to take the checkered first. “This goes out to Guy, Ralph, Marilyn, Ryan and Jamie,” Henry applauded. “This team is more like a family than it is a race team with Marilyn Genzman. I love being a part of it.”
Henry would like to thank Level Performance, J&J Auto Racing, OC Shocks, FK Rod Ends, Simpson Race Products, Keizer Wheels, Wings Unlimited, HMS Speedways & Hobbies, Handy Grafix, and Kear's Speed Shop as well as his family, the Genzman team, and all of his great fans for their continued support.
Henry is next scheduled to compete on May 22 at Plymouth Speedway in Plymouth, Ind. and on May 23-24 at Fremont Speedway in Fremont, Ohio, all with the All Star Circuit of Champions in the No. 53 410ci winged sprint entry.
