Tracy Hines Heads North for a Trio of Races in Wisconsin and Minnesota

NEW CASTLE, Ind.—June 18, 2014— Tracy Hines has raced at countless tracks over the years in his illustrious career, but there are still a few that he has not turned a lap at. A couple that meet this description are Amsoil Speedway in Wisconsin, and Deer Creek Speedway in Minnesota. He’ll visit each this weekend, along with a stop at Angell Park Speedway in Wisconsin, as the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series 2014 campaign continues.

The trio of races up north opens for Hines begins on Friday, June 20 at Amsoil Speedway in Superior, Wisconsin. He then heads to Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minnesota, on Saturday, June 21. The weekend concludes for the driver of The Carolina Nut Company DRC on Sunday, June 22 at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin.

“Going to new tracks always keeps you on your toes,” said Hines. “Both tracks up north are places they rarely see our style of racing at it, so that makes it exciting, knowing that we have a chance to make new fans. I’ve heard great things about both Superior (Amsoil Speedway) and Deer Creek (Speedway) and how racy the surfaces are. The competition has been very tight all year with the sprint cars and I would expect the same this weekend.”

Amsoil Speedway will be hosting the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series for the first time. The semi-banked three-eighths-mile traditionally has hosted winged sprint car racing over the years.

Hines has raced at three tracks in Wisconsin in his career in USAC National events, with the majority of those coming at Angell Park Speedway and the Milwaukee Mile. He has also competed at Wilmot Raceway near the Wisconsin/Illinois border.

The race at Deer Creek Speedway will mark the first time that Hines has raced in Minnesota in his career, adding to an extensive list of states from coast-to-coast that he has raced in. Deer Creek is a banked, three-eighths-mile that hosts a variety of racing events each season.

Hines, who has won at Angell Park Speedway in the past with the Badger Midgets, has one USAC National win at the third-mile, with that coming in 2010, with the Honda USAC National Midget Series. He has made one start at Angell Park with the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car in 2012, finishing seventh. Last year, he came home second and third in a pair of midget starts at the track just outside of Madison, Wisconsin.

“We are used to running midgets at Angell Park (Speedway), and some of what works driving-wise can be applied when racing a sprint car there,” said Hines. “Being a little bit smaller of a track, finesse and drivability come into play a bit more than horsepower, but having a good engine still is important. These races will be good preparation as we get ready for (Indiana) Sprint Week next month.”

Last week, Hines competed in Indiana Midget Week with the Honda USAC National Midget Series. He picked up three top-five finishes in the four-race mini-series, which was shortened to four races by Mother Nature. He also finished second with the Traxxas USAC Silver Crown Series at Gateway Motorsports Park. Hines enters competition this week, sixth in points with the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series.
