Inside Line Promotions – MESQUITE, Texas (March 21, 2017) – Harli White had a new race car and a rebuilt engine entering the 44th annual Spring Nationals last weekend at Devil’s Bowl Speedway.
Unfortunately, the combination didn’t quite work during the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour season-opening doubleheader.
“On Friday night we fought engine issues all night,” she said. “It was acting like a fuel problem, but it ended up being ignition. It was a rebuilt engine and everything was golden off the dyno. It had a different sound to it. It just didn’t run right.”
The team scrambled to fix the problem throughout Friday’s opening round, when White placed fourth in a heat race, eighth in a qualifier and third in a B Main to transfer into the back of the main event.
“It wasn’t to its full potential,” she said. “We didn’t have time to focus on the actual car because of it. We didn’t have the speed there.”
White was able to maneuver from 22nd to a 15th-place finish in the main event despite the problem.
The team returned to the track on Saturday for the event finale, which began with White ending fifth in a heat race and ninth in a qualifier after the problem fully emerged.
“It finally let go Saturday in the qualifier so I wasn’t able to finish,” she said. “We changed engines in time to race the B Main.”
White capped the weekend with a seventh-place result in the B Main, which was only four positions shy of transferring into the main event.
“We’re switching back to ‘old faithful’ this weekend,” she said. “It’s the same car we raced in Florida and have had a lot of success with.”
White will return to action this Friday and Saturday at 81 Speedway in Park City, Kan., for the Park City Cup/Air Capital Shootout with the NCRA before racing Sunday at Randolph County Raceway in Moberly, Mo., with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
Additionally, White will have new hats, t-shirts and long-sleeve t-shirts available for sale at her race trailer beginning this weekend.
