It’s hard not to sound like a broken record when Tyler Davis’ name ends up on top of the board at the end of the night. But, for the second race in a row at Humboldt Speedway, his sixth overall so far in 2022, Tyler Davis went back to victory lane during ARMI Contractors USRA Modified competition last Friday night.
Starting fifth on the grid, Davis was quick to work into the top three on the opening lap. An early race restart just two laps later saw Tyler steal the lead and never look back. For the second time in as many races, Tad Davis circled the Hummer just behind Tyler, unable to find the speed needed to catch the No. 65 machine.
When the checkers waved Tad Davis crossed in second, with Brendon Gemmill, Paden Phillips, and Dillon McCowan completing the top 5. TJ Tolan and Paden Phillips claimed heat race wins, while McCowan nabbed the night’s hard charger award.
Brian McGowen found his way back to victory lane during Ray’s Metal Depot USRA B-Mod feature action. McGowen took advantage of a pole position starting spot going largely unchallenged the entire way. Action behind the No. 22 car was fierce as multiple battle raged on throughout the field.
At the checkers Reece Solander, Luke Phillips, Krew Walburn and Paden Phillips made up the top 5. Reece Solander claimed hard charger honors, with Paden Phillips and Krew Walburn picking up heat race wins.
Another driver on an early hot streak, Brandon Vink claimed the win Extrusions Inc. USRA Tuner competition. Clint Haigler chased Vink around the ¼ mile banked oval the entire distance, but Vink once again proved to be too much for Haigler. Colt Burk, Cayden Vance, and Jonathan Culler completed the top five. Vink and Carlyle Ward nabbed heat race wins, while Vink also claimed hard charger honors for the night.
The box score does not tell the whole story when it comes to Primal Jerky Midwest Modified action. Pole starting Ryan Smith claimed the win, but it wasn’t with out a fight. Second and Third starting Zach and Josh Boyd each took their turn at the front of the field, both drivers having issues once there resulting in DNF’s.
Scott Collins challenged for the win late, but Smith held on for the win. Collins finished second, while Tret Bailey, Tyler Davis and Andrew Hodges completed the top 5. Smith and Collins nabbed heat race wins, while Casey Jesseph claimed the hard charger award going +7 on the night from 13th to 6th.
Derrek Wilson picked up his first win of the season in Home Savings Bank Factory Stock competition. A seven car field signed in for the night, and Wilson proved strongest all night winning both the lone heat race and A feature.
Action resumes this Friday night May 6th at 8pm. Rays Metal Depot USRA B-Mods, Primal Jerky Midwest Mods, Home Savings Bank Factory Stocks, and Extrusions Inc. USRA Tuners are all in action.
