Chad Humston – Outlaw Schedule in 2011 Begins at I-80!
(Bill W) April 6, 2011 – Coming off a career year, Chad Humston and owner Mark Burch are excited to get their season rolling this weekend at the I-80 Speedway near Greenwood, Nebraska. The Mark Burch Motorsports #1m “Bananawagon” will be competing with some of the best drivers in the country for the $3,000 prize that is on the line both Friday and Saturday night. This season, they will compete at various 410 and 360 sprint car events in which points won’t be a concern.
If last year’s shows at I-80 Speedway are any indication, you can expect the driver from Giltner, Nebraska to be towards the front. Three podium finishes were recorded, including two second place finishes…one in the Spring show there. “We’ve had our share of bad luck there, but we’re going to try to turn that around this weekend,” says Chad, who is looking for Victory Lane. “When we get everything going, we’re going to be tough. Marvin (Brees) has been working his tail off, and so has Cal (Werner).”
Werner, a Waverly High School student, was recently hired to help both in the shop and at the track. He will join the highly touted Brees, affectionately nicknamed “Marvin Gardens”. Burch says, “The toughest part will now be coming up with Cal’s nickname.”
The #1m team accomplished a lot in 2010. Their seven victories were recorded at the Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, Boone County Raceway in Albion, Nebraska (3), Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction, Nebraska, Mid-Nebraska Speedway in Doniphan and the Belleville High Banks in Belleville, Kansas. In addition, they put themselves on the pole of the 360 Nationals and finished in the top three in 360 points at Knoxville with a very strong season at the “Sprint Car Capital of the World”.
The team’s schedule will include some 410 starts in 2011, and they will not be chasing points anywhere. That provides an opportunity for flexibility. A look at the tentative schedule shows around forty shows at fourteen different tracks in four states.
Chad looks forward to running with the big iron. The only other time he has piloted a 410 was when the family leased a motor for an All Star show years ago in Doniphan. “I’m really excited to get the 410 put together and see what we’ve got there,” he says. “We’re going to run a little bit of everything really. We’ll hit some 360 shows, and hit some 410 shows at Knoxville. We’ll run with the ASCS, the NCRA…pretty much wherever we want, when we want.”
The schedule shows several shows with the ASCS-Midwest and NCRA series, but life calls as well. Chad explains one conflict that he sees on the horizon. “We’ll hit quite a few of the ASCS-Midwest and NCRA shows, but we have some conflicts including my wedding towards the end of the year.”
If you are at I-80 Speedway this weekend, be sure to throw a little love towards Chad, Mark, Cal and of course, Marvin.

Partner of the Week: Engler Machine and Tool, Inc.
Engler Machine was started in 1980 by Tim Engler. His main line of business at that time was plastic injection molds. Over the years he has diversified very widely leaning more towards "high performance products". He now builds fuel injection systems, custom made pulling chassis, gears, shafts, specialty CNC products, racing engines and some custom machining.
Tim has been involved in tractor pulling and holds 13 national titles in that sport, he no longer pulls himself, but has been influential to the success of many other pullers through his advice and building capabilities. He races winged sprint cars when time allows this is something he truly likes and wishes he had more time to do.
