Fischer Racing Celebrates 2018 Season
2018 was a big year for Fischer Racing and we have a lot to be thankful for in this season of Thanksgiving! Overall, the team finished the POWRi West Midget League standings in 5th place and in 3rd place for the Sooner Series season. Congratulations to Hunter for persevering through a tough season and driving to a career best finish. As a father/son team, we roll with the challenges and focus on the good things accomplished. We competed in 20 races, across 4 states, covering 4,500 miles, and visited 11 different tracks. We brought on new partners for the season, Flying Tee Golf and B&C Custom Woodworks while keeping our friends at Bolted Spine Designs, Skip’s Performance Corner, and Fabtech. We switched mid-season to BOSS Chassis and had great support from Eric Fenton to get that car on track without missing a beat. The POWRi West team did a fantastic job all year and we thoroughly enjoyed the friends we made at the track each time we competed. No racetrack drama here… just great racing!
Challenges crept up throughout the season, keeping the team below its full potential. To illustrate how temperamental these racecars are and the hurdles faced by a weekend race team, I read back through the weekly recaps and notes. For the most part, you could attribute the challenges to inexperience and bad luck. Week 1 of our season, we put in a rear end that had the wrong ratio of gears in it. Week 2 we had either debris in the fuel line or a fouled spark plug. Week 3 had a heim break on the rear torsion arm (not common). Week 4 tangled tires with another car and ended upside down and out for the weekend. Week 6 got caught up in someone else’s wreck on the 2nd day of a show. Week 7 & 8 were spent chasing down what ended up being a bad battery. Week 11, Day 1 had a crank trigger go bad and Day 2 had the wheel hub splines strip (with the nut still on the axle). The team was able to complete Week 12, noticing a coolant loss after each race. A crack was discovered in the cylinder head and sidelined the team from Week 13. Rain knocked out the next 3 races, but held off on Day 2 of Week 14. The head repairs held solid, but running in all 3 features (C, B, and A) of the Fall Fling exceeded the capacity of a new battery, falling 5 laps short of a Top 10 finish. In all we had 4 (relatively) good weekends. I am thankful to my son for keeping his head up through all of this and doing his best with what he is given. I know the same challenges are faced by many of our fellow weekend warrior race teams and it goes to show how much dedication it takes to complete a race season and to finish respectably.
Many thanks are owed to a lot of people. Foremost, I have to give thanks to God for keeping Hunter and all the drivers in our series safe this year! Without the approval of the team matriarch, Brenda Fischer, nothing would be possible. Thank you for supporting Hunter in chasing his dreams and being an understanding wife when we come back with our stories each weekend. Flying Tee Golf has been a great addition to the team, providing great promotional opportunities and having introduced golf to Hunter in an atmosphere where he could have fun and challenge his old man in some friendly competition. B&C Custom Woodworks came on as an associate sponsor this year and was able to come see us in action near the end of the season. We look forward to everyone joining us again next year and hope to work out the kinks in our program to chase that championship!
We are entered in the 2019 Chili Bowl Nationals! If you would like to join the team, please send us a message and we would love to discuss some marketing details.
