Hunter Fischer
Back at Port City After Weather Cancellation
Spring weather took care of the POWRi West series in OKC and the micros in Tulsa on 4/13, but the rain held off this past Saturday (4/20). While the midget series was off for the weekend, Fischer Racing joined Port City Raceway (PCR) in Tulsa for their weekly program in the Skip’s Performance Corner house non-wing 600cc #17 micro sprint. After 4 races, Hunter stands in the 10th position for points at PCR in the USAC Non-Wing class.
Starting P3 in the 2nd heat, Hunter was stuck on the bottom while the outside row made their way around the pack. With 34 cars competing in the NW division, finishing 5th put Hunter on the pole of B Feature #2. With the top of the track holding the preferred line, the lead was relinquished but the Honda powered RUJO chassis stayed in second as the top 2 walked away from the field and transferred into the A Feature.
Accepting the challenge of starting dead last (P20) in a talented pool of non-wing micros, Hunter made his way through the pack. Many caution flags were thrown during this race, making it difficult to get into a rhythm. After caution #1, Hunter made it up to 16th. The next caution gained one more position. After a few more cautions, Fischer made his way up to 9th place to fight out the last few laps. A nail-biting race was had between Hunter and 10th place running side by side for several laps and never touching. We lost the battle at the line and finished 10th overall, making up 10 spots for the night. Hunter did a great job piloting the Flying Tee Golf sponsored #17 and brought it back to the trailer in one piece, ready for next week.
The next race will be a double-header in the midget with the POWRi West series on Friday (4/26) at Creek County Speedway and Saturday (4/27) at Port City Raceway, both in the Tulsa metro area. Hunter will drive double-duty in the midget and micro on Saturday at PCR. It will be a great show, guaranteed! Please come out and cheer on the team and have a great time. Thank you to all of our sponsors: Flying Tee Golf in Jenks, Skip’s Performance Corner, Honda of Tulsa, FabTech, Bolted Spine Designs, Snap-on Tools, and Beyea Headers.
