Night at Belle-Clair Ends a Bit Early for Tyler Nelson
By Jessica Jenkins
After getting rained out Friday night in Gas City, Tyler Nelson started October off by heading down to race at Belle-Clair Speedway. With three races already under his belt at the dirt track near St. Louis, he was looking forward to having a good night.
Pairing up with Gardner Racing to run their #35, Nelson started fourth in heat four and finished up with a sixth place finish. With a huge turnout of cars, that result sent the 19 year old to the first B Main. Lining up in eleventh place, he didn't stay there long once the green flag fell. Jumping up to the top five early, he was in good position to advance to the Feature. But as the laps clicked off a mechanical problem began causing him to lose positions. Against a tough group of competitors, he dropped out of the top five and when the checkered fell in the Semi, he had captured a seventh place finish. Nelson missed the main race by just two spots and saw his night come to an early end.
Still holding onto a positive attitude, the Kansas native reviewed, "The night went pretty well. In the heat race we didn't have the car tight enough so I went backwards. I drove up to 5th in the B before something changed on the car. I think one of the shocks broke because it started bottoming out really hard and biking. When it started doing that it was hard to hold position and I backed up to 7th." He also thanked car owner Larry Gardner, The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Kansas City and Spike Chassis.
Next up for Tyler Nelson is a trio of USAC races this weekend at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, IL. For updates and to learn more about this rising star, visit TylerNelsonRacing.com, like him at Facebook.com/TylerNelsonRacing and follow him on Twitter @TylerNelson88.
