Inside Line Promotions – FORT WORTH, Texas (Sept. 17, 2014) – Channin Tankersley registered a pair of top 10s last weekend during the Port-A-Cool U.S. Dirt Track Championship at Texas Motor Speedway.
Tankersley, who was driving for Bruce Griffith, kicked off the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour doubleheader on Friday by finishing where he started in his heat race – fourth. That relegated him to a B Main.
“Friday started off kind of rough,” he said. “We were under the pace in hot laps and we made quite a few changes before the heat race. We ran mediocre in the heat race. We worked on it a little more and got it faster in the B Main to where we were contending.”
Tankersley finished second in a B Main to transfer into the main event, which he started on the outside of the 10th row.
“The track was pretty dry,” he said. “It had a really rough cushion and a little bit of grip around the tires. Pretty much I got a great start and literally got about 10 guys on the start and then picked off a couple of cars. I lost brakes about halfway through and just maintained the rest of the race.”
Tankersley charged from 20th to a ninth-place result.
The weekend wrapped up on Saturday at Texas Motor Speedway, where Tankersley maneuvered from fifth to third place during his heat race. That locked him into the main event, which he started 13th.
“I got a good start and got probably five guys on the initial start of the feature,” he said. “The track was real spotty. I was putt-putting around the bottom. It started to take a little rubber and I got two or three more guys. That was about all the moving you were going to do once everybody moved down into the rubber.”
Tankersley ended with a sixth-place finish, which marked his 23rd top 10 of the season.
“I want to thank Bruce and the crew for the opportunity and the hard work all weekend,” he said. “It’s always a good weekend when you can earn a couple of top 10s with the ASCS National Tour.”
Tankersley will take this weekend off before finishing the ASCS Gulf South Region schedule on Sept. 27 at Battleground Speedway in Highlands, Texas. He holds a 101-point lead in the championship standings entering the season finale.
