Inside Line Promotions – EDNA, Texas (April 16, 2019) – Channin Tankersley was en route to his first feature triumph of the season last Saturday before he was turned in the final corner.

The Old School Racing driver charged from fourth to win an ASCS Gulf South Region heat race, which earned a spot into the feature redraw for the event hosted by Texana Raceway. Tankersley pulled the No. 3 to line up on the inside of the second row for the main event.

“I got to the lead early and was setting a good, consistent pace,” he said. “I was trying not to make any mistakes. I made it all the way to turn four and unfortunately got turned around. He hit me in the side of the tail tank.”

Tankersley, who was making his first start at the track since July 2013, led nearly the entire main event before a fellow competitor drove through him in the final turn of the race, spinning both out. Tankersley rallied during the final restart to post a fourth-place finish.

“Luckily we had lapped a bunch of people so we weren’t restarting very far back,” he said. “I wound up fourth, but it was a tough break whenever you led it pretty much the whole way and are that close to the end.”

Tankersley’s top five gives him a top five-result in the last 10 ASCS Gulf South Region races.

The region heads to Thunder Valley Speedway in Glenmora, La., this Saturday. Tankersley hasn’t competed in a sprint car at the track.

“It’s been ages, like 13 or 14 years, since I’ve been there,” he said. “I raced a mini sprint there in 2005. I remember I went there twice. I didn’t win, but I’m pretty sure the last time I ran there I was in the top five.”
