Inside Line Promotions – BEAUMONT, Texas (July 23, 2019) – Channin Tankersley is back on top of the ASCS Gulf South Region championship standings following a successful return to action last Saturday.
The Old School Racing driver made the most of his first start since missing a month because of a concussion by winning a regional race at Golden Triangle Raceway Park. The triumph propelled him back into the lead in the standings with only a handful of scheduled races remaining.
“We were balanced well and could run the top, bottom and middle,” he said. “The track was slick through the middle and had a decent bottom with a good cushion.”
Tankersley maneuvered from fourth to second place in a heat race to make the feature redraw. He pulled the No. 3 to line up on the inside of the second row for the main event.
“We started out in hot laps without feeling very comfortable,” he said. “It was a new car so we were trying to get me and the car synched. We were better in the heat. Luckily we got a good start and I was able to capitalize. That put us in the redraw.
“Within a lap or two I was up to second and then took the lead about 10 laps in on a restart. I passed him and yellow came out. That happened again. Finally on the third time I got by and we got more than one lap in. I think I pulled away once I got the lead for good.”
The victory was Tankersley’s second of the season and his sixth in his last eight races at the track.
Tankersley is scheduled to return to action on Aug. 17 at Golden Triangle Raceway Park with the ASCS Gulf South Region.
