Smith Facing Two New Tracks During All Star Tripleheader This Weekend

Inside Line Promotions – KUTZTOWN, Pa. (Aug. 18, 2015) – Ryan Smith enters a UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions tripleheader this weekend ranked seventh in the championship standings.

Smith will make his debut at I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Mich., on Friday and at Butler Speedway in Quincy, Mich., on Saturday before attempting his second career race at Millstream Speedway in Findlay, Ohio, on Sunday.

“I’m taking the hauler down to a freightliner shop to get it worked on this week,” he said. “As long as we have that back it shouldn’t be a problem.”

Smith said he’s watched videos of races at I-96 Speedway and Butler Speedway to prepare.

“They look like normal slick tracks that you’d see in Ohio or Western Pennsylvania,” he said. “I’m looking forward to the challenge.”

Smith earned a top-10 result during his only event at Millstream Speedway last month.

“We’ve been a lot better the second time at every track,” he said. “We’ve learned pretty quickly at each place so I’d anticipate we’ll have a better grasp when we return to Millstream this weekend.”

Smith is coming off a podium finish on Sunday at Action Track USA, where he piloted a SpeedSTR for Lamar Shaffer.

“I want to thank Lamar and Brian for the opportunity,” he said. “We were within striking distance the last two shows. We just couldn’t seal the deal. I had a lot of fun. I’m looking forward to racing again with those guys.”

Smith opened the night by qualifying 11th quickest before he advanced from third to second place during a heat race. The feature redraw lined Smith up on the inside of the second row for the 75-lap feature.

“I ran second and was pretty much all over the leader when we had a break about halfway,” he said. “I said to the crew chief it was so good right now why change it. I got the lead on the restart and led about five to 10 laps before we had a yellow. Another driver had a good restart and we went back and forth a couple of laps, but it seemed like my tires went away. I ended up third. It was a good, solid run for us.”
