Smith Earns Top-10 Finish with All Stars at Millstream Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – FINDLAY, Ohio (Sept. 29, 2015) – Ryan Smith pieced together a solid performance last Sunday at Millstream Speedway, where he captured his 24th top-10 finish of the season.

Smith kicked off the UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions event by qualifying 14th quickest overall. That ranked fourth in his group and put him on the pole of a heat race, which he won to lock himself into the dash.

“We caught the pole for the heat race and had the car really good,” he said. “It was good in the dash, too.”

Smith finished where he started – third – in the dash to line up on the inside of the second row for the main event.

“We didn’t change enough for the feature,” he said. “It was almost too good too early. Once the track cleaned off from top to bottom we didn’t have the car snugged up enough to roll through the slick stuff. It was a rookie mistake.”

Smith maintained a spot in the top five for the first half of the feature before he faded to an eighth-place result.

“I hung in fourth until halfway,” he said. “Once it really got slick I was searching everywhere and couldn’t find any grip. I was a sitting duck the last 10 or 15 laps. I had the wing in the trunk and couldn’t go anywhere. We backed up, but it was a pretty good night.”

Smith ranks seventh in the championship standings – only 48 points out of fifth place – with one All Star race remaining this season.

Last Friday’s All Star event at Atomic Speedway in Chillicothe, Ohio, rained out.

Smith is slated to compete this Thursday through Saturday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., for the 53rd annual National Open with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series.

“We’ve been pretty good the last month or so,” he said. “We’ve been in the hunt pretty much everywhere we go. We’re going to gamble and put a new car together and go for it so to speak to see if we can land a good finish. This is my fourth year and I’ve yet to make the Saturday night big dance so that’s my goal.”
