Inside Line Promotions – KUNKLETOWN, Pa. (Oct. 25, 2016) – A new car, a fresh engine and ideal weather conditions have Ryan Smith ready for this weekend’s challenge.
Smith and the Warko Racing team will travel to Concord, N.C., to take on the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series and the best sprint car drivers from around the globe this Thursday through Saturday during the 10th annual Bad Boy Off Road World of Outlaws World Finals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.
“I’m really excited,” he said. “We put this X-1 chassis together, just got the engine back from a rebuild and dyno testing, and the weather looks great down in Charlotte.”
Last year the World Finals were plagued by persistent rain. On the first night Smith qualified 17th out of 58 cars, finished fifth in his heat race (only the top three advanced to the A Main) and ended fourth in the C Main. Two nights later – rain pushed the Saturday event to Sunday – Smith qualified 41st overall, ran seventh in his heat and finished 10th in the Last Chance Showdown.
“It was a hammer-down, one lane track and we struggled,” he said. “But it looks like it will be dry and warm this year so the track should slick off, which benefits us greatly.”
The event begins on Thursday with qualifying for both the Friday and Saturday programs and Smith knows those precious two laps on the clock can make or break his weekend.
“As always with the Outlaws you need to be all out during qualifying,” he said. “Hopefully we get a decent pill draw and the driver can do what he is supposed to do.
“I have a lot of confidence going into the World Finals. The few races we ran this X-1 race car we got a sixth at Susky (Susquehanna Speedway), a 10th at the Dirt Classic (at Lincoln Speedway) and had a top 10 against the Outlaws at Fulton before we broke a shock. This car is very adjustable.”

SPONSOR SPOTLIGHT – HP Engines
HP Engines is a racing engine business located in Thompsontown, Pa.
“We have not had one engine issue in the two years we’ve run HP Engines,” Smith said. “They build a reliable engine that puts out good horsepower. This new engine is not a super ‘powerhouse’ unit, but it should get us qualified well and drive nice which is what we need to compete at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.”
