Van Dam Battles for Podium Before Bad Luck Strikes During Grays Harbor Season Finale

Inside Line Promotions – ELMA, Wash. (Oct. 2, 2017) – Henry Van Dam was in contention for at least a podium finish during the season finale at his home track last Saturday before a parts failure resulted in a DNF.

Van Dam kicked off the event at Grays Harbor Raceway by maneuvering from sixth to third place during the scramble. That lined him up on the inside of the second row for the main event.

“It was a lot better starting spot, especially with a bit of a rain delay,” he said. “The track was super fast. Any position we could gain in the scramble was great. I felt we could be more aggressive with the setup. I knew we had to keep our momentum up going through the rough stuff. I was afraid if we started sixth we’d get choked up.”

Van Dam continued to run well once the A Main began.

“We rolled around in third for the first six or seven laps,” he said. “We were able to get to second and then we closed to the leader. There weren’t any cautions so it came down to getting through lapped cars. We had closed on him a bit, but with about five laps to go we got into the rougher stuff trying to get around a lapped car and it broke the rear axle.”

Van Dam’s bid at the win came up a few laps short as he was unable to finish the race. He was credited with a sixth-place finish, which was his 12th top 10 of the season.
