Schuett Earns Top-10 Finish During Debut Weekend in 410 Sprint Car

Inside Line Promotions – JACKSONVILLE, Ill. (April 9, 2019) – Kyle Schuett’s first weekend in a 410ci winged sprint car was a success as the rookie driver scored a top-10 finish with the Built Ford Tough MOWA Sprint Car Series on Sunday at Jacksonville Speedway.
“I was primarily just trying to run all the laps, keep the nose clean and avoid the wrecks,” said Schuett, who started 12th in the 19-car field. “We did that and finished ninth so we thought that was pretty good.”
Schuett noted that familiarity with the track was a key to his solid finish.
“I’ve run Jacksonville for about six or seven years with the micro and midget,” he said. “It was definitely a lot different running the sprint car, but it’s a track that I’m familiar with and have some confidence in knowing what it would do.”
Schuett had advanced as high as eighth before falling back to 10th and eventually finishing ninth.
“We thought the track was going to hold a little more bite than it did and that kind of hurt us a bit,” he said. “But I was actually just hoping to hold our own. We exceeded that by racing people and actually passing some cars, so we were happy with that.”
Schuett’s maiden competition in a sprint car occurred the night before at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa, which hosted the MOWA Series and IRA Sprint Car Series.
“I had no expectations of doing much going into 34 Raceway,” he said. “I had never raced there before and it was definitely the biggest track I’d ever been on. I just wanted to run all the laps and not wreck our stuff. I think I finished second-to-last in all my races. It was a little disappointing, but it was a big, strong field with the IRA Series there. We ran all the laps and loaded it in one piece so we considered that a success for our first race.”
Schuett will tackle a similar track this Friday when the MOWA Series visits Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Ill.
“We ran a midget at Granite City once and a micro another time,” he said. “I don’t have a lot of laps there to give me much confidence, but we learned a lot at 34 Raceway for a bigger track like Granite City so that should help. I’ll just primarily be there again to get some laps. There’s no reason to force situations and tear stuff up.”
