Inside Line Promotions – PHILO, Ill. (May 13, 2019) – After being away from the track for more than a month, Kyle Schuett is eager to return to racing this Saturday with the Built Ford Tough MOWA Sprint Car Series at Tri-State Speedway.

“It’s been a long break for us and we’re looking forward to getting back to the track,” the 410ci sprint car rookie said. “The break actually fit my personal schedule fairly well.

“Our plan is to follow MOWA this year and they had a gap in their schedule from April 12 until this Saturday. That worked for us because I needed to spend a lot of time studying in preparing to become a CPA. It actually worked out even better with all of the rain we’ve had. We couldn’t have raced much anywhere even if we wanted.

“I’ve been studying like crazy. I take my final exam on Tuesday. Hopefully that will go well and then I’ll be able to get back to focusing on racing.”

While Schuett has raced at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Ind., a few times before, he’s unsure whether that will provide much benefit for him in a sprint car this Saturday.

“I think I’ve raced in Haubstadt three times – twice in a micro and the last time in a midget in 2015,” he said. “We actually did pretty well there in the midget. We were racing for the lead in the A Main until we had a flat left rear. But there isn’t a lot that you can carry over from racing a midget to a winged 410 sprint car. And that was four years ago. It’s difficult to remember a lot from that far back.”

With just three nights of competition in a winged sprint car under his belt, Schuett is hoping his lengthy time away from the track won’t be a major setback in his learning curve.

“I think I’ll be a bit rusty,” he said. “I’m hoping I’ll get it back in hot laps and it won’t take all night to learn everything again. The good thing is that with all the rainouts, a lot of the other drivers haven’t raced much either. We’re all kind of in the same boat.”

While it’s very early in the season, Schuett is off to a good start in the MOWA Series championship standings, where he currently ranks sixth.

“We’re not focused on points,” he said. “We mainly chose to run MOWA because most of their races are in our area. We’re off to a good start in points and it would be nice to finish near the top, but right now we’re just into getting laps and finishing races.”
