Taylor Powers Midget to Pair of Runner-Up Results
Inside Line Promotions – FORT MORGAN, Colo. (June 21, 2016) – If last weekend’s results are any indication, Zac Taylor will be in Victory Lane soon behind the wheel of the Todd Henry midget.
In only his second weekend of racing the midget – the other being nearly a month ago – Taylor recorded a pair of runner-up finishes competing in the Rocky Mountain Midget Racing Association (RMMRA).
“My car owner was very happy,” he said. “The guy we finished second to both nights (Keith Rauch) is Todd’s cousin. They raced sprints and midgets all over together. Todd said if I can run up front with him the wins will come. And Mark, who turns the wrenches on that car and on Brad Loyet’s car, told me I have a bunch of wins coming so that made me feel good.”
The weekend began on Friday at Phillips County Raceway in Holyoke, Colo. Taylor won his heat race from sixth in dominating fashion before he maneuvered from sixth to a second-place finish in the feature.
“When that track gets a lot of water it gets very tacky and fast,” he said. “It was fun … hammer down all night. I just got beat by experience. The car was just a little tight all night.”
On Saturday Taylor competed at I-76 Speedway, where he maneuvered from seventh to fourth place in a heat race. That lined him up on the outside of the fifth row for the main event.
“They watered the track a lot, but Todd said he knew it would slick off and told me to make adjustments throughout the feature,” he said. “The car was tight early and I started turning the dial and got going. I got to fourth and the first and second-place guys took each other out so we ended up second again. The guy that builds our engines said he never had a driver finish up front like that on consecutive nights so we know we’re going in the right direction.”
Taylor has a very busy schedule the next couple of weeks. He will be back in the midget this Saturday for an RMMRA event at El Paso County Raceway in Calhan, Colo. The following week he will run his 305ci sprint car July 1-2 at Dodge City Raceway Park in Dodge City, Kan., with the United Rebel Sprint Series (URSS) before competing on July 3 at WaKeeney Speedway in WaKeeney, Kan., with the URSS and July 4 at El Paso County Speedway with the 305 sprint in the Colorado Alliance Tour.
“The more seat time the better,” he said. “We planned about 45 races this year and that will keep me sharp all year.”
