JEFFERSON, S.D. – With the end of a long winter came the first race of 2016 for Jasper, Minn. driver Trey Thesenvitz. A 100-mile trip south to Jefferson, S.D. put him at the quarter-mile Raceway Park for the Miniakota Micro Sprint season opener. On consecutive nights of competition, Thesenvitz gained a duo of sixth-place finishes at the “South Dakota Spring Nationals.”

Out of the gate on Friday night, Thesenvitz shook the rust off quickly. Among 17 micro sprint entrants, his pill draw put him starting from fifth in his heat race. He then sprang forward two positions to finish in third.

Unfortunately, a snafu with the main event lineup slated Thesenvitz and his beautiful Twisted Signs and Designs entry from the outside of row six. Known for his prowess upon the drop of the green, he powered into eighth by the entry of turn one. Before long, Thesenvitz was knocking on the door of the top-five, and made the move near the halfway point of the race. It was then that the ever-changing track surface began to affect the handling of the Sawyer Chassis No. 53. A late challenge came for the fifth spot, and Thesenvitz fell to sixth before the checkered flag beckoned.

In the second night of action, the heat race wouldn’t go as well as before. A suspension issue put Thesenvitz and his team scrambling to make adjustments, and he would wind up finishing fifth after starting outside the front row.

The lowly heat finish put Thesenvitz 13th on the grid for the final event of the weekend. Climbing his way forward with a much better-handling machine this time around, he attained a spot inside the top ten using the inside line of the track before heading to the top. Progressing onward, the freshly turned 18-year-old built momentum around the high side and ultimately earned a sixth-place result. “I worked up to about ninth and then moved to the top and got rolling,” Thesenvitz recollected. He then noted that since 2013, “this is the first time that I’ve finished any of the first three races,” hoping that the better luck is here to stay throughout the course of the 2016 season.

Thesenvitz would like to thank Twisted Signs and Designs, Speed Shack Performance, and Infinity Shocks, as well as his family, his crew chief Scuba Steve, and all of his great fans for their continued support.

The No. 53 team is currently seeking primary sponsorship. Any inquiries regarding sponsorship can be directed to Trey Thesenvitz Racing or Redbeard Promotions.

Thesenvitz is next scheduled to compete on May 7 at Clay County Speedway in Spencer, Iowa in the No. 53 600cc micro sprint entry.
