Elma, WA -
Collen Winebarger dominated the weekend and won his 3rd Modified Nationals this weekend at Grays Harbor Raceway. Mike Chadwich picked up a win in the PHRA Dwarf cars and Cory Sweatman won his 3rd hornet main event in a row.
Collen Winebarger dominated the IMCA Modifieds to lead all 40 laps in a green to checkered non stop main event that took just under 16 minutes to run where Winebarger lapped up to 9th place. The action behind the leader was very fierce as Brenton Schnitzer ran second until lap 16 when Grey Ferrando moved into 2nd and on lap 25 the 9th starting Nick Trenchard got by Schnitzer for 3rd. Brenton Schnitzer was able to hold on for 4th and in a very close battle at the end Craig Moore took 5th by .005 over Tyson Blood who finished 6th. The B Main winners were Brad Purdey and Jake Sorenson and the other 4 cars who transferred into the main event were Brian Harding, Dan Sheller, Brian Izzi, and John Higgenbottom. The Elma Lanes hard chargers were Geoff Morris, and Brian Harding.
In the Hornets Colin Sims making his Grays Harbor season debut led the first lap then Jason Parmalee took the lead on lap took 2 and led until lap 13 when Cory Sweatman who started in the last row due to class rules because he won last week was able to get around to lead the last two laps to win his 3rd main event in a row. Jason Parmelee was able to finish 2nd, followed by Austin Kerrigan in 3rd (in the Max Sanford car who also started in last row because the car finished second last week), Randy Goodman, and Colin Sims. Heat race wins went to Colin Sims, Austin Kerrigan, and Cory Sweatman.
In the PHRA Dwarf Cars Mike Chadwick took the lead from the green flag and set a solid pace and after a brief challenge from Crystal Flath on a restart was able to cruise on to victory. It was a great rebound after a hard hit resulted in a DNF on Friday and having to fix the car in the morning so he could even race. The battle behind for second between Flath and Steve Hyson with Hyson finally able to get by to finish second followed by Flath in 3rd, Jim Fisher in 4th and Doug Pirtle in 5th after James Pavel spun in turn 4 going to take the checkers.
