Banks, Oregon- After the entire month of April was cancelled due to constant rain showers Sunset Speedway Park finally was able to record the first race of 2017. The “Banks Bullring” would be on hand for Lime-A-Rita Ladies Night. Classes in competition included the Budweiser IMCA Modifieds, Pure Stocks, 4-Bee’s, as well as both division of 600cc Micro Sprints.

Dayton’s Bubba Foster would open up his winning account in his first SSP appearance of the campaign in the Budweiser IMCA Modified ranks. Shane Mills, out of Redmond, would be the runner-up while Todd Newton captured third. The rest of the balance included Kristi Somers, out of Woodland, Washington, in fourth and fifth finishing Craig Cassell from Albany.

In the Pure Stock division Vancouver, Washington driver Rob Ferree would tame the field. Larry Brookshire came across the wire in second followed by Amanda Clarke, from Forest Grove, in third. Yamhill driver Scott Hoodenpyl was fourth and Forest Grove’s Kendall recorded a fifth place result.

St. Helens native Bob Berg would be the big winner in the 4-Bee classification. Second went to Ryan Conroy and Hillsboro pilot John Henry wound up third. Fourth and fifth places finishes belonged to John Gartner, also from Hillsboro, and Vancouver, Washington’s favorite pirate Captain Turnabout respectively.

In 600cc Micro Sprint Open competition Enumclaw, Washington youngster Colby Thornhill would take care of business. He would beat out Deming, Washington’s Jeff Little, in second, and Springfield native Jeff Broadwell, who was third. The rest of the top five would be made up of fourth finishing Justen McConnville, out of Dundee, and George Nichols, in fifth.

Last but not least were the 600cc Restricted Micro Sprints in which Colby Thornhill would double up in trophies winning that event as well. McKenna, Washington’s Lane Taylor got second over Braden Maltais of Rochester, Washington. Macie Logsdon, from Mount Vernon, Washington, was fourth and to make it a complete Evergreen State top five Becca Clark, of Vancouver, Washington, would be fifth.

Sunset Speedway Park returns to action on Saturday, May 13th for 98.7 The Bull $25.00 Car Load Night. This means you can fit in as many people as you can in your vehicle and all get into the races for just $25.00! Classes in competition include the Budweiser IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Mods, Street Stocks, 4-Bees, and the New Bees.

Pit Gates open at 2:00 PM, Front Gates 4:00, Time Trials begin at 5:30, with Racing kicking off at 6:30. Tickets are $13.00 for Adults, Seniors/Military/Juniors (13-17) $10.00, Youths (6-12) $5.00, and Children (5 and Under) are FREE.
