Elliott Takes Top-Five In Season Opener

HIGHLAND, Ill. – After what was supposed to be opening weekend with two nights of racing was washed away by rain, Chad Elliott was able to officially open his season on Saturday at Highland (Ill.) Speedway. The Cottage Hills, Ill. native got his first top-five of the year out of the way early, coming home with a fifth-place run.
Starting the night out, Elliott was in action amongst 18 micro sprints at the central Illinois quarter-mile. From fourth in his heat race, the Southwestern Illinois College student set a blistering pace en route to the preliminary victory.
With the front of the feature lineup shaken up a bit, Elliott was set to roll off from the outside of row two. As track conditions forced a narrow racing groove around the bottom of the speedway, passing came at a premium. Elliott’s Sawyer Chassis No. 65E handled a bit snug for the racing surface, and the driver fought to remain in his position. An early caution bunched the field up and Elliott fell to fifth on the restart. Much of the field clicked off several laps before a late yellow set up a green-white-checkered finish; Elliott hoped to make a move forward in the waning laps, but ultimately concluded the race in the fifth spot.
Elliott would like to thank Hammer & Steel, Berry Performance, JRE Performance, Phantom Racing Gear, and Competition Suspension Inc, as well as all of his fans for their continued support.
Elliott is next scheduled to compete on April 1 at Belle-Clair Speedway in Belleville, Ill. for the “Bob Johnston Classic,” and on April 2 at Highland Speedway in Highland, Ill.
