Matt Tifft
Tifft carries on dirt campaign at Fairbury
Matt Tifft faced perhaps his toughest test in dirt racing yet over the past week when he competed at the famed Fairbury (Illinois) Speedway.
On Wednesday, Tifft raced his GUNK No. 57 Super Late Model at the quarter-mile track as part of a 65-car field in a Castrol FloRacing Night in America program. He finished 10th in his heat race during the fifth annual One for the Road, then drove from 13th to seventh in his B-Main. However, he came up short of transferring into the 50-lap, $20,000-to-win feature.
On Friday and Saturday, Tifft shifted his focus to the World of Outlaws CASE Construction Equipment Late Model Series Prairie Dirt Classic, which brought 78 Super Late Model competitors to Fairbury.
Tifft started fifteenth in the third of four 25-lap, $5,000-to-win Showdown Features on Friday and brought home a 16th-place result in the prelim race.
The next night, a $50,000 first-place payout was available in the Prairie Dirt Classic finale. Tifft did not start his Last Chance Showdown and didn’t compete in the 100-lap feature to conclude the crown-jewel event.
