Rodney Sanders
Top-5 finish in Modster Mash at 81 Speedway
After wet conditions and unfavorable forecast wiped out Thursday night’s Modster Mash opener at Tri-State Speedway (Pocola, Okla.), Rodney Sanders headed to Lakeside Speedway (Kansas City, Kan.) on Friday afternoon for the fifth annual Grant Junghans Memorial. With 74 United States Racing Association (USRA) Modified entries registered, Sanders came in third in his heat before placing second in his B-Main behind Carlos Ahumada Jr. Starting the opening night feature in 17th, Rodney was an early retiree from the 42-lapper with mechanical issues.
The following night at 81 Speedway (Park City, Kan.), Rodney secured his spot into the A-Main with an 8-lap heat race victory. With $10,031 on the line, Sanders faded one spot in the 40-lap affair to register a fourth place finish behind Jake O’Neil, Tanner Mullens, and Johnny Scott with Terry Phillips coming in fifth. For the Halloween Hangover at The Hummer on Sunday at Humboldt Speedway (Humboldt, Kan.), Sanders notched a third place finish in his heat race, which positioned him 12th on the starting grid for the $5,000-to-win finale. Clawing forward two spots in the 40-lap finale, Rodney recorded a 10th place outing.
