Sanders takes on USRA Stock Car foes at Mississippi Thunder and Deer Creek
A new challenge was on tap for Rodney Sanders on Friday and Saturday as he jumped behind the wheel of a United States Racing Association (USRA) Stock Car for a pair of events in Wisconsin and Minnesota.
On Friday evening, Sanders strapped into the No. 20 entry to take part in the 35-car strong Prelude to Stock Car Nationals at Mississippi Thunder Speedway (Fountain City, Wisconsin). He won his heat race on the 1/3-mile oval and lined up second for the 25-lap, $3,000-to-win main event. After leading early, he suffered a DNF and was scored 23rd in the final running order.
Next up on Saturday was the $10,000-to-win Stock Car Nationals at Deer Creek Speedway (Spring Valley, Minnesota). The event brought 81 USRA Stock Cars to the 3/8-mile track.
Sanders finished eighth in his heat race and drove from 10th to fourth in his B-Feature, leaving him one position shy of transferring to the 40-lap main event.
He started and finished third in the 20-lap Non-Qualifier race, bringing his night to a close.
