Pair of 6th-place finishes for Sanders in USMTS Fall Jamboree
Rodney Sanders raced in his adopted home state over Labor Day weekend as the Summit USMTS schedule visited Spring Valley, Minnesota’s Deer Creek Speedway. Sanders grabbed two solid finishes at the track in the 26th annual Featherlite Fall Jamboree.
Originally scheduled as a three-day affair with Thursday and Friday points setting the lineups for Saturday’s features, the event turned into two complete shows after rain washed away Thursday’s festivities.
When the action finally got underway on Friday, Sanders was one of 48 USMTS competitors at the 3/8-mile speed plant. He drove his Sanitation Resources Inc. No. 20 Modified to the win in his heat race, then started fifth in the 40-lap, $5,000-to-win A-Main. He turned in a sixth-place finish.
On Saturday, 49 USMTS Modifieds filled the pit area for the $12,000-to-win finale. Sanders again took the checkered flag first in his heat, and this time started seventh in the main event. He moved forward one position in the 50-lapper to come home sixth for the second night in a row.
With the Deer Creek races in the books, Sanders remains third in the USMTS point standings.
On Sunday, the 11th annual USMTS North Iowa Nationals program was slated to be run at Mason City Motor Speedway. The event, postponed due to rain in July, was ultimately canceled.
