Sadie Klein Wins Street Stock Special at Winston Speedway

Rothbury, Michigan (Friday, June 19th, 2015): After being forced to cancel last week’s program due to heavy rains, the Winston Speedway opened its doors to welcome many race-hungry fans. The show was headlined by a $400 to win special presented by Grasmeyer Brothers. The Late Models, UMP DIRTcar Modifieds, Michigan Dirt Modifieds, Bombers, Four-Cylinder Warriors, and Young Guns were also in action.

Ronnie VanNatter kicked of the evening’s feature events by picking up the win in the Young Guns feature. He took the lead on lap 1 and never looked back from there as he would lead the entire event from start to finish. This was his Fourth win of the season. He finished just ahead of Gabe Flores who took second. Hedi Barnhard, and Madison Crane completed the field. VanNatter also won the heat race.

The 15-lap Bombers A-Main hit the speedway with Mike Epplett and Robb Sternberg led the field down to the green flag. Sternberg jumped out front early with the advantage. On lap 4 however, the lead would be taken over by Epplett. He would hold the top spot for two laps when he would be passed by the defending track champion Dan Wilson Jr. on lap 6 and he would go on to get the win.

This was the Muskegon, Michigan native’s second win of the year behind the wheel of his A&A Manufacturing #57. Finishing in second was Epplett. Mike Roe, Sternberg, and Nate Trick made up the rest of the top five. Wilson and Roe won the heats.

The UMP DIRTcar Modifieds were out next led by John Hammerle and Steve McClees on the front row for a 20 lap A-Main. Hammerle took the early lead. He would be able to stay there for 8 laps, until Aaron Morey would power his way to front of the pack. He would never relinquish the lead going on take home the checkered flag.

Morey, the West Olive, Michigan driver earned his first win of the season in his # 2k. Kody Weisner was the runner up. Jeff Erickson Jr., Steve McClees, and Hammerle rounded out the top five. The lone heat race was won by Kevin Cavanaugh.

It was then time for the Street Stock $400 to win special presented by Grasmeyer Brothers. The Field running the 25-lap feature was lead out by Mark Farber and Derek Poland when the green flag dropped. The early lead was taken by Poland, who held the lead until lap 15 when he would be the cause of a caution which sent him to the rear surrendering the lead to Robbie Sternberg. However on lap 20 the 2013 track champion Sadie Klein would find fight her way past Sternberg for the lead and go on to get the win.

This was the Muskegon, Michigan drivers second win of the season and in a row in her Babbitts Online #8. Sternberg had to settle for second. Jeremy Holman, Paul Namey, and Farber would make up the top five. Farber and Sternberg were the heat winners.

Tom Sprague Jr. was the big winner in the Late Models $1000 to win special. He started on the pole alongside Rob Taylor. Sprague took off with the lead and he would never look back from there as he would go all the way from start to finish to pick up the victory.

This was the Sprague’s second win of the year in the Sprague Auto Parts #21s. Kyle Borgman finished just behind in second. Kevin Nelson Jr., Matt Sprague, and Kevin Juusola capped off the top five. The preliminary heat races were won by Matt Sprague and Taylor.

Joe Carmean and Josh Grabe led out the 15-lap feature for the Michigan Dirt Modifieds. Grabe took the advantage early. He would run every lap as the leader however there would be a caution with just one lap remaining and in the final circuit Carmean would make the pass on the outside out of turn 4 for the win.

This was Carmeans first win of the season at Winston in his #7. Grabe had to settle for second. Steve McClees and Brett Strunk completed the field.

Finally, the Four-Cylinder Warriors took to the track in a competitive 15-lap main event. Terry Woodard and Chris Gagnon lead the field down to the green flag. Gagnon would lead after the completion of lap 1. Things would remain the same until lap 13 where Gagnon would suffer mechanical issues and be forced to pull off, giving Brian Carson the lead Carson would go on from there to get the win.

This would be the North Muskegon, Michigan native’s first win of the year in the B.S.A. #04. Buck Spencer was the runner up finisher. Woodard, Kristina Johnson, and Brian Hammond rounded out the top five. Carson and Gagnon were the heat winners.

This Friday June 26th will be Kids Night at the Winston Speedway. The racing program will be another full 7 in 1 show. The show will feature three specials for three different classes. The Michigan Dirt Modifieds will be competing in a special presented by Port City Racecars. There will also be a Bomber Special presented by Grease Monkeys of Montague, and the Four-Cylinder Warriors will also be running a special as well. The Late Models, UMP DIRTcar Modifieds, Street Stocks, and Young Guns will also be running. There will also be a roll-over contest for the fans at intermission, and tons of bike giveaways, prizes, and much more. Pits Open at 5:30pm, Grandstands open at 6:00pm, Hot Laps start at 6:30pm, and the green flag is set to fly at 7:30pm
