Bagley claims podium finish in Hayden Ross Memorial
Weather wreaked havoc on Morgan Bagley’s racing plans throughout the spring and early summer, meaning he strapped into his P&W Sales No. 14M Super Late Model for the first time in weeks on Saturday. He promptly turned in a third-place finish with the Sooner Late Model Series, then made a DIRTcar Summer Nationals start to begin the first week of July.
On Saturday, Bagley was among 29 Sooner Late Model Series competitors at the half-mile Thunderbird Speedway in Muskogee, Oklahoma, for the Hayden Ross Memorial. After rain washed out the Friday portion of the event, Saturday became a one-day show.
Bagley nabbed the runner-up spot in his heat race on Saturday and began the 20-lap, $6,600-to-win feature from the third position. He led the first two laps and ultimately finished third behind Eli Ross (Hayden’s brother) and Brett Hansen. Jon Kirby and Scott Crigler completed the top five.
Bagley and Team 14 had planned to run a pair of DIRTcar Summer Nationals – or Hell Tour – shows on Monday and Tuesday. However, Monday’s slated stop at Old No. 1 Speedway in Harrisburg, Arkansas, was rained out, meaning Bagley was only able to compete at Benton (Missouri) Speedway on Tuesday.
He was one of 33 Super Late Model competitors at the 3/8-mile Benton track, and although he was off in qualifying, he finished third in his heat to secure a spot in the $5,000-to-win main event. He started 11th and finished 18th in the 30-lapper.
