Buzzy Adams Edges Devin Dixon in Winternationals Finale at East Bay
Kevin kicked off his 2020 racing season this past week at the 44th annual Winternationals at the East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, Florida. He and his #23d team competed in all 5 nights of the week long mini-series for UMP Modifieds and was fortunate enough to come out on top of the $5,000 finale on Saturday night! (Mike Horne photo)
After a Monday night test session, Tuesday saw Kevin set fast time in his group win his heat race before coming home a solid second in the night's feature event.
Tuesday, he once again set fast time in his group, ran second in his heat race and raced to a 7th place finish in the 25-lap feature.
Wednesday, he set fast time in his group for the third night in a row and proceeded to win his heat from fourth before struggling and slipping to a 13th place finish.
Friday, he qualified second in his group, then won his heat from the outside of the front row before picking up his second runner-up finish of the week in the main event. After race officials deemed the winners tires illegal a week later, Adams was awarded the victory.
Saturday, he was locked into the feature by viture of being in the top six in points, but during the hot lap session, he has mechanical issues due to a recently changed motor, so the team was sent scrambling to make repairs before the main event. The team made repairs and Buzzy rolled off 3rd in the 75-lap feature. He ran at, or near, the front the entire 75-laps, swapping the lead multiple times during the event, eventually leading a green/white/checkered 1-lap dash to the checkered to win the $5,000 by a mere 0.195 seconds in thrilling fashion.
