Weiss loses motor while battling for Intercontinental Classic win at Eldora

With the 50th annual World 100 getting shifted to 2021, Ricky Weiss was one of 48 Late Models invited to Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, Ohio) on Thursday afternoon to kick off the Intercontinental Classic. After laying down the fourth fastest lap overall in time trials, Weiss outran Jimmy Owens in his heat race to pick up the 10-lap victory. Earning the second-starting position for the $10,000-to-win preliminary feature, Ricky dropped one spot in the 30-lapper to place third behind Josh Richards and Brandon Overton with Tim McCreadie and Chase Junghans rounding out the Top-5. The following night for another $10,000-to-win preliminary feature, Weiss posted a runner-up finish in his heat behind Shannon Babb, which positioned him eighth on the starting grid for the A-Main. Dropping six spots in the 30-lap affair, Ricky logged a 14th place outing.

With preliminary results from Thursday and Friday setting the grid for the heat races on Saturday, Ricky gained two spots in the 15-lapper to finish behind Dale McDowell. Starting the $50,000-to-win Intercontinental Classic in fifth, Weiss suffered a blown motor on lap 55 while battling for the lead that brought an immediate end to his evening. He was credited with a 19th place finish.
