Pair of 9th Place Finishes to Open DIRTcar Nationals
Monday night saw Ricky Weiss return to action at Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Florida) for the 49th annual DIRTcar Nationals. Drawing 49 DIRTcar Late Models, Ricky followed up the fastest lap in his time trial group with a 2nd place finish in his heat behind Brandon Sheppard. Dropping three spots in the 30-lap feature, Weiss recorded a 9th place finish.
The following night, Weiss posted a runner-up finish in his heat behind Brian Shirley which positioned him 9th on the starting grid for the A-Main. With $7,000 on the line, Ricky held his spot for all 30-laps to place 9th. (Jim DenHamer photo)
On Wednesday afternoon as 51 World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series entered the event, Ricky locked his spot into the $10,000-to-win A-Main with a 2nd place finish in his heat behind Mark Whitener. Starting in 11th, Weiss slipped back to a 20th place outing after bringing out a caution on lap 30.
For the fourth round of the 49th annual DIRTcar Nationals on Thursday, Weiss came in 6th in his heat before placing 2nd in his B-Main behind Chase Junghans. Coming one spot shy of a Top-10 finish in the feature, Ricky advanced through the field 13 spots to register an 11th place finish.
On Friday night, Weiss scored a 3rd place finish in his heat which positioned him 12th on the starting grid for the $10,000-to-win A-Main. Passing five cars in the 40-lap affair, Ricky notched a 7th place finish.
Wrapping up the 49th annual DIRTcar Nationals on Saturday, Ricky followed up the seventh fastest lap in his time trial group with an 8-lap heat race victory. Earning the third-starting position for the $10,000-to-win finale, Weiss gained one spot in the 50-lapper to place 2nd behind Jimmy Owens with Kyle Bronson, Darrell Lanigan, and Brandon Sheppard rounding out the Top-5.
Ricky is currently in third in the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series point standings.
