Weiss collects first wins of 2023 at Central Arizona Raceway

Ricky Weiss won back-to-back Ernie Mincey Tribute Early Thaw features over the weekend at Central Arizona Raceway aboard his Drydene Performance Products No. 7 G-Style Transport/ Sniper Chassis / Vic Hill Racing Engine Super Late Model.

He banked a $2,000 triumph on Thursday, followed by a $2,500 victory on Friday.

“We were right there on the edge of breaking through pretty much the whole week at the Wild West Shootout, but just couldn’t quite get over the hump. We took what we learned in New Mexico and hit the ground running here in Arizona with back-to-back-wins,” Weiss said. “We were pretty good on Saturday night and got a runner-up finish, and then Sunday night luck just wasn’t on our side but was still a strong weekend for our team. We’re looking forward to racing three more times at Central Arizona Raceway this coming weekend.”

With the Wild West Shootout in the rearview mirror, Ricky Weiss and team continued their early season western trek by competing at Central Arizona Raceway (Casa Grande, Ariz.) in the opening weekend of the Ernie Mincy Tribute Early Thaw.

Weiss picked up his first win of the young season on Thursday after taking the lead on lap 15 of the 30-lap feature. Weiss outran Jason Shroud and Billy Moyer for a $2,000 payday.

Weiss continued his momentum on Friday by winning his heat race and starting on the pole for the $2,500-to-win main event. At the drop of the green flag, Weiss battled for lead and eventually wrestled away race-long leader Billy Moyer to capture his second win of the season.

For another $2,500-to-win event on Saturday, Weiss started the 35-lap feature from the fifth position and gained three spots to finish runner-up to Bricen James.

The first weekend drew to a close on Sunday with Weiss winning his third heat race of the weekend. With a fourth-row starting spot in the feature, Weiss retired from the $3,000-to-win main event early with mechanical issues.

Ricky will return to action at the Arizona oval this Thursday-Saturday with three more rounds of Super Late Model action. Weiss will vie for a $2,000 winner’s check on Thursday, a $2,500 victor’s take on Friday, and a $3,000 top prize on Saturday.
