Wenger scores impressive second-place finish in FALS Super Nationals
With a freshened Pro Power Racing engine underneath the hood of his Rocket Chassis No. 42 Late Model, McKay Wenger returned to action on Thursday afternoon at Farmer City Raceway (Farmer City, Ill.) as his Labor Day weekend kicked off. Drawing 20 MARS Racing Series entries, Wenger clocked in fourth fastest overall in time trials before picking up a heat race victory. Earning the pole position for the $5,000-to-win A-Main, McKay paced the field for the first 33 circuits but was unable to hold off Brian Shirley amid lapped-traffic to place second. For Friday’s program, McKay secured his spot into the A-Main with a heat race win but Mother Nature postponed the remainder of the program during the third heat.
1On Saturday afternoon at Fairbury Speedway (Fairbury, Ill.) for the FALS Super Nationals, Wenger’s fourth-place finish in his heat race pinned him 10th on the starting grid for the feature. Coming alive after an early restart, McKay took part in a heated battle with race-leader Bobby Pierce in the final 15 circuits but came up 0.237 seconds short at the line. He led eight total laps in the 50-lapper but finished second when the checkered flag flew, trailing Pierce across the line with Garrett Alberson, Ryan Unzicker, and Tanner English completing the Top-5 finishers.
