Red-hot Wenger records weekend sweep at Farmer City & FALS
McKay Wenger’s stellar 2024 season continued on over the weekend with a pair of repeat victories at two Illinois staples.
On Friday at Farmer City (Ill.) Raceway, Wenger outran Jason Feger in his heat race to secure the eight-lap victory. Rolling to his fourth straight victory in the 25-lap feature, McKay soared to his seventh win of the season and the $1,000 winner’s payday.
In a field of 29 DIRTcar Late Models on Saturday at Fairbury (Ill.) Speedway for the Richard Craven Memorial, McKay timed in sixth-fastest in his group before placing first in his heat. Winning an exciting late-race battle over Jason Feger and Frank Heckenast Jr. in the feature, Wenger notched his second victory as many nights and eighth overall triumph of the 2024 campaign. He collected the $5,012 top prize ahead of Feger, Heckenast, Mike Spatola, and Ryan Unzicker.
"It would take off on those restarts and I had to figure out how to get some heat it that thing," Wenger said. "Jason and I had the harder tires on. We both were trying to get some speed going. This car is really good if I hit my marks right. I was struggling on the bottom. When I saw 10 laps to go, I was just going to bank the cushion and that's what we did."
