Wenger races to third in Prairie Dirt Classic preliminary feature
McKay Wenger joined a stout field of 64 Super Late Models at Fairbury (IL) Speedway on Wednesday afternoon as the Castrol FloRacing Night in America event kicked off the 14th annual Prairie Dirt Classic weekend.
After timing in sixth-fastest in his 32-car group in time trials, Wenger suffered broken motor mounts that derailed the rest of his evening. He came in sixth in his heat before finishing fifth in his B-Main.
With the field inflated to 78 World of Outlaws Case (WoO) Late Model Series entries for Friday's preliminary features, McKay's time trial effort pinned him on the sixth row of his prelim. Chasing the $5,000 preliminary payday, Wenger wheeled all the way up to second before ultimately crossing the line in third in the 25-lapper. He joined Ryan Gustin and Nick Hoffman on the podium.
Locked into the ninth-starting position for Saturday night's $50,000-to-win Prairie Dirt Classic finale, Wenger broke a rocker arm in the opening laps that brought a disappointing end to his weekend.
