Diercks rolls to Nippy 50 preliminary victory at Maquoketa Speedway
Spencer Diercks visited Maquoketa Speedway (Maquoketa, Iowa) over the weekend to pull double duty in the Late Model and Modified ranks for the inaugural Nippy 50.
Pinned on the ninth row of the Late Model opener via a sixth-place finish in his heat, Diercks lost one spot to finish 18th.
In the Modified ranks on Friday, Spencer followed up a 10-lap victory in his heat with his first win of the 2024 season in the feature. He fended off a late charging Jacob Hobscheidt to secure the $1,500 payday.
“It was a good way to start the season,” said Diercks. “Jacob is pretty good and he gave me a run for my money. He came on strong but we were good enough to hold on.”
Saturday’s Nippy 50 ended prematurely for Diercks in both divisions, retiring on lap 25 of the 50-lap, $20,000-to-win Late Model feature and lap 24 of the Modified. He led the opening 10 circuits before ultimately pulling pitside with six laps remaining.
