Hammer 10th in Gateway Dirt Nationals prelim in St. Louis
Kyle Hammer returned to action on Thursday afternoon with a visit to the Dome at America’s Center (St. Louis, Mo.) to pilot his Clayson Construction No. 45 Late Model for the sixth annual Gateway Dirt Nationals presented by O’Reilly Auto Parts.
With the 119-car field divided into two groups for prelims on Thursday and Friday leading up to Saturday’s finale, Hammer followed up the 12th-fastest qualifying lap in his group with an impressive fourth-to-second run in his heat on the cushion. Starting the $5,000-to-win preliminary feature in 11th, Kyle gained one spot in the 30-lapper to register a 10th-place finish.
Back in action on Saturday afternoon, Hammer missed a transfer spot by one car in his qualifier with a third-place finish, relegating him into the B-Main for one final shot at the $30,000-to-win Gateway Dirt Nationals main event. Only sending the race-winner into the 50-lap finale, Kyle recorded a second-place outing.
