Hoffman advances to second in Hawkeye 100 at Maquoketa Speedway
Nick Hoffman’s pursuit for the World of Outlaws (WoO) Case Late Model Series championship title resumed on Wednesday afternoon with a trip to Highland (IL) Speedway for the Beat the Heat 40.
Aboard his Tye Twarog Racing No. 9 Late Model for the first night of the four-race swing, Hoffman raced into the opener with a runner-up finish in his consolation race after getting buried in time trials. Pinned on the 10th row for the feature, Nick climbed five positions to salvage a 14th-place finish.
With Thursday’s visit to Spoon River Speedway (Canton, Ill.) rained out, Nick joined 33 World of Outlaws competitors at Maquoketa (IA) Speedway on Friday for the two-day Hawkeye 100. Gunning for a $10,000 payday in the A-Main, Hoffman limped to a 21st-place finish after suffering a mechanical issue early in the 40-lapper.
After sitting through a lengthy rain delay on Saturday, Hoffman backed up the fastest qualifying lap in his 16-car group with a heat race win. Starting the $20,000-to-win Hawkeye 100 in seventh, Nick charged forward five spots to register a second-place finish. He joined race-winner Brian Shirley on the podium with Brandon Sheppard finishing in third.
Nick is currently second in the latest World of Outlaws point standings.
