Ransomville Speedway Profile: Ryan Susice

Starting his racing career in go karts at Ransomville in 1996 and working his way up to stock cars in 2007, The Ransomville Renegade is known to be a strong competitor in the Modified Class at the Big R every Friday night. Ryan Susice from Wilson, NY finished the 2019 racing season at the Big R with a 5th place in the points standings. He grabbed a win and had seven top 5 finishes. He also competed at Merrittville Speedway in 2019, placing 5th in the points standings with one win and seven top 5 finishes. Other than his weekly appearances at these tracks, he also competed at Super Dirt Week in Oswego, NY. He said that being able to qualify and run well in both the big block and small block “was a really good feeling”. He hopes to go back to Super Dirt Week in 2020 and improve from last season. Other than getting back to SDW, Susice plans to run at Ransomville Speedway and Merrittville Speedway weekly. He hopes to also mix in a couple of traveling shows in his schedule. He wants to work on the car, improving in his suspension system claiming he has been behind in the upgrades compared to other competitors. Susice says, “I feel like we have all the tools in place to come back stronger than ever and go for another championship.” Everyone already claims that the mods are the best in the business and Susice agrees. Susice believes that modified racing is already “really tough since the cars and motors are all on an equal playing field with the drivers being the best in the business” but the drivers at Ransomville Speedway “have some of the toughest competitors of any weekly track in 358’s”. Susice adds that the strong competition “elevates everyone’s game when you are racing the best drivers” and that he really enjoys it overall. Susice would like to thank Young Drivers of Canada, Transport Sales and Service, Subway, Shawnee Services, DMS Powder Coating, Bicknell Racing Products, and Mad Skins Racecar
Bodies for their generous sponsorship for the upcoming 2020 racing season. Other than his sponsors he would like to thank his parents, his wife Rebecca, his crew and all the fans and supporters who allow him to compete year after year.

Q&A with Ryan Susice:

What is the greatest piece of advice you have gotten from someone?

“It’s not really advice but more the work ethic my parents taught me. The harder
you work for a goal, the more realistic it is to achieve.”

Who is a driver that you look up to?

“Stewart Friesen. To be able to make your living in racing is a tough thing to do,
especially in the northeast. He is incredibly versatile and has been very
successful in every type of car he has driven.”.

What is the most memorable moment as a driver?

“I don’t really have one in particular as they are all memorable. As a driver some
of the most memorable are the ones that don’t go well. But my favorite are
probably winning at Syracuse in Sportsman in 2010, winning the Big Block race
at Merrittville in 2018 and finishing 7th with the World of Outlaws at Ohsweken in 2017.”

How did you get into racing?

“My dad raced at Ransomville Speedway since the mid 70’s so it has been in my blood since day one. I also grew up just around the corner from the speedway, so some of my earliest memories were watching the cars go by on trailers on Friday nights.”

“I would just like to thank all the fans and people that have supported us over the years as well as everyone at Ransomville Speedway for giving us such a great place to spend our Friday nights. I hope everyone is staying safe during these difficult times and I can’t wait to get back to doing what we love.” -Ryan Susice
