Taylor grabs checkered flag at Central Arizona Raceway
Jeff Taylor made his sole day of competition at Central Arizona Raceway (Casa Grande, Arizona) count over the weekend when he won the Sunday finale of the Showdown at CAR.
On Friday, Taylor returned to Arkansas for a family event and Shawn Strand drove his No. 5 IMCA Modified to a seventh-place result on the 3/8-mile high-banked clay oval. Taylor then elected to take the Saturday portion of the Showdown off and hit the track again on Sunday as one of 34 IMCA Modified entries.
Taylor came out of the gate strong, scoring a second-place result in his heat race, and rolling off fourth in the 30-lap, $3,000-to-win A-Main. He grabbed the top spot on the 24th circuit and led the rest of the way, taking the victory by 0.733 seconds over runner-up Jason Noll. Third place went to Tim Ward, while Kollin Hibdon finished fourth and Austin Kuehl came home in the fifth spot.
The win was Taylor’s fifth of the 2023 campaign. Overall he posted 15 top-five finishes and 17 top-10 results during the season.
