26 Promotions – Peoria, AZ – (April 15th, 2017) – Mason Keefer and Scotty Milan found their way into Victory Lane last night at Canyon Speedway Park, both after leading green to checker in their respective Mains.
20 Wing 600’s would compete in three Heat races with Colton Hardy, Michael Colegrove, and Jarrett Martin picking up the Heat race wins. Mason Keefer would start and finish 2nd in Heat 1, earning him enough passing points to finish in the top 6, making the invert, and placing him on the pole for the night’s Feature.
Keefer would clear outside pole sitter and reigning series champion, Paul Martin, coming out of turn 2 on the opening lap. Keefer would hold off Martin’s attempt to take the lead on the outside as they exited turn 2, two laps later. Lap traffic wouldn’t play much of a factor until after the halfway point. Keefer had put a couple of car lengths between himself and Colton Hardy, who now occupied the 2nd place position. Both cars would struggle to clear the lapped car, allowing Hardy to close on Keefer and then allowing Keefer to expand his lead. Once Hardy was clear, the race for the win was on. It would take Hardy just over a lap to close the gap and then the two raced nose to tail for the final 5 laps. Keefer held off all challenges from Hardy in the closing laps, en route to his first victory of 2017. Colton Hardy and Jarrett Martin would complete the podium with Paul Martin and Michael Colegrove rounding out the Top 5.
Scotty Milan’s night didn’t get off to the best of starts, starting on the pole in the Restricted Heat race, Milan would come to a slow stop exiting turn 4 on the opening lap. Able to get the car refired, Milan would work his way back up to 4th, while Kaiden Clark held off a constant challenge from Cameron LaRose to pick up the Heat race win.
After the invert, Milan’s 4th place finish in the Heat would line him up on the pole for the Feature. Milan showed early that he had a dominate car. Much like Keefer in the 600 race, Milan would also clear the reigning champion, Stephen Simpson III, but he’d do so as the field entered turn 1. From there Milan began to pull away from the field and never faced a challenge for the lead. Milan would expand his lead to over a full straightaway as he dominated the Restricted class Feature to pick up his 3rd consecutive win.
Night 2 of Canyon Speedway Park’s Easter Eggstravaganza gets underway at 7:30 with spectator gates opening at 5. There is a mandatory driver’s meeting at the Power 600 Series trailer directly following Canyon’s driver meeting.
