Winger notches podium finish at Sycamore Speedway

For the second week with the DIRTcar Summer Nationals, Ashton Winger traveled to La Salle Speedway (LaSalle, Ill.) on Wednesday afternoon for the $5,000 prize. After a flip in time trials prevented him recording a time, Winger charged from the tail of the field in his heat race to finish third. Earning the 11th-starting position for the A-Main, Ashton was running in fifth with two laps remaining when he tagged the wall on the final lap. Persistent rain postponed Thursday night's event at Spoon River Speedway (Banner, Ill.) to July 7th.

1On Friday afternoon at Sycamore Speedway (Maple Park, Ill.), Ashton topped the 28-car field in time trials before picking up a 10-lap heat race victory. Receiving the third-starting position for the $10,000-to-win A-Main via the redraw, Winger ran a steady pace throughout the 50-lapper, scoring a third-place finish at the line. He trailed Brian Shirley and Bobby Pierce to the checkers with Ryan Unzicker and Jason Feger rounding out the Top-5.

Mother Nature axed Saturday and Sunday's scheduled dates at Federated Raceway at I-55 (Pevely, Mo.) and Jacksonville Speedway (Jacksonville, Ill.).

Ashton climbed to fourth in the latest Summer Nationals point standings.
