Mullens Highlights 4th of July at 81 Speedway

Park City, Kansas- Tanner Mullens, Wichita, Kansas, celebrated the 4th of July in style at 81 Speedway picking up the A Feature win here on Saturday night. Mullens, starting outside the pole, beat Kenny Sweet to turn one and kept his car out front for the entire 20 lap feature. Haysville driver Tyler Davis rallied from a 5th starting spot to come home second. Bryce Schniepp, Kenny Sweet and Woodward, Oklahoma’s John Herring Jr. completed the top 5. Ponca City, Oklahoma’s Treyton Gann was the big mover on the night starting 18th and rolling into the 6th spot. Heat Race wins went to Davis, Schniepp and Mullens.
In Late Model action, with and added bonus from Hot Rod Chicken Inc./ Just Good Old Racing, Marysville, Kansas ace Dusty Leonard used patience and a good handling car to slip by Beloit’s Daniel Smith en route to an $850 payday. Leonard, starting inside the second row, fell in behind Smith and waited for his chance to move ahead. Finding a spot off the bottom of turn 2, Leonard pounced and set sail to the A feature win. Delbert Smith and Adam Popp rounded out the top three. Heat Race wins went to Daniel Smith and Leonard.
AutoTech Services Street Stocks saw Chris Purkey, from Park City, Kansas, commit early to running the high groove around 81 Speedway and making it work for his first A Feature win in the 2020 season. Purkey battled side by side with Newton’s Klye Blocher for the opening laps, until Blocher’s spin bunched the field back together. Purkey stayed with the game plan and held off David Blocher and David Blevins for the win. Heat Race wins went to David Blocher and Purkey.
In Mini Stocks, Valley Center’s Haley Cash used her strong performance in the Heat Race as a showcase for her wire to wire win in the A Feature. Starting on the pole, she held off Goddard’s Korey Bice and a hard-charging RC Esparza for the well deserved win.
Mod Lites made their first appearance at 81 Speedway and Bentley, Kansas driver Tommy Carter swept both Heat Race and A Feature in his first-ever win at 81 Speedway. Carter held off Kenny Sweet, pulling double duty in both Alternative Pest Management / USRA A Modifieds and Mod Lites, for the win.
Racing returns to 81 Speedway on Saturday, July 11th, with ASCS Sooner Region Sprint Cars, Mod Lites, Mini Stocks and Heyglassman.com Stock Cars. Racing begins at 7:00 PM. For more information make sure to visit www.race81speedway.com and 81 Speedway on Facebook and Twitter.
