Eagle Valley Midwest Modified Showdown

Brad Erickson
Jim Falls, Wisconsin (June 03, 2018) The Eagle Valley Speedway featured the Southworth Chevrolet | Tim's Automotive Machine Midwest Modified Showdown as they were joined by the WISSOTA Street Stocks, Pure Stocks, Super Stocks, Modifieds, and EVS Hornets. Feature winners included Steve Hallquist, Terran Spacek, Kevin Adams, Karl Genett, George Richards, and Dan Prissel.
The WISSOTA Modifieds ran two heats won by Kevin Adams and Grant Southworth but it was Steve Hallquist who dominated the main event, leading every lap. Hallquist moved from the outside of Kent Baxter on row one to take the lead at feature time and he ran flawlessly in the high groove as cars battled behind him. The early running saw Hallquist extend a lead over Southworth as Mike Anderson moved to third. A spinning Sam Fankhauser reset the field and the restart saw a shake up behind the leader. Anderson made a hard move into second and closed to challenge for the lead. However, he jumped the cushion coming out of turn four and Adams took advantage moving to second and Southworth into third. As Hallquist kept a small cushion to the finish line, Adams ran in the second position. It was Anderson regaining the third position over Southworth and the fifth-place finishing Greg Nippoldt.
The WISSOTA Super Stock heats were topped by Curt Myers and Tommy Richards. The feature took two tries to get under green, but Andy Miskowic took the early point. Terran Spacek immediately challenged and took the lead on lap two as Myers raced Miskowic side by side for the second position. As the two battled behind the leader, Richards began to make it three wide. However, a spinning Tony Falkner slowed the action. Under green, Spacek looked stout as Myers settled into second and Richards in third. At the halfway point, the final caution of the race flew for a Luke Schultz spin. The remainder of the race saw Spacek drive to victory over Myers, Richards, Miskowic, and Doug Koski, who rebounded from a first lap mishap and drove from the tail of the field to finish fifth.
The big money on the night saw four heats of WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds won by Kevin Adams, Scott Splittstoesser, Travis Anderson, and Tony Bahr. The final two positions in the feature came out of a B feature with Dan Wheeler winning and Tommy Richards qualifying. It was Adams from the pole of the feature as he was flanked by John Mueller. Adams got the jump and took the lead, which he never relinquished over the next thirty laps.
Early on, Shane Halopka moved to second and Michael Truscott took third. Travis Anderson quickly moved from sixth to fourth but lost a driveshaft and rolled to a stop in turn four. The field reset, and it was Adams strong in the lead over Halopka, Truscott, Jake Smith, and a charging Tony Bahr. Adams set a torrid pace as he entered heavy lapped traffic at the halfway point. Adams attacked the lap cars, maintaining his advantage, and Bahr raced to fourth. Halopka drew the caution with a crash in turn three while running in second.
The restart saw Adams out front and the 22nd starting Richards in eighth. Under green, Nick Koehler, who had been moving into the top five, jumped the cushion and lost ground as Richards, Smith, and Joe Chaplin raced three-wide for the fourth position. Chaplin secured the spot over Richards in fifth. It was Adams collecting the big check, winning the feature over Bahr, Truscott, Chaplin, and Koehler, who closed late on the high side and regained a top five position over Richards.
Topping the WISSOTA Street Stock heats were Kyle Genett and Karl Knopps as the two managed to finish the feature one two also. It was Knopps leading lap one but Genett took the point a lap later. The caution flag flew for Danny Richards who broke down on the tack and needed assistance off the racing surface. Knopps was restored as the leader but he immediately found himself side by side with Genett. Genett took the lead back and Rob Grabon moved into third.
At the halfway point, the leader was scorching lapped traffic and had moved away from Knopps in second. Knopps himself had a solid lead over third where six cars battled for position. At one point, the third-place battle was four-wide with a lapper involved, as directly on their bumper, they were three-wide seeking an opportunity. It was Genett easily over Knopps, who was also unchallenged for second. Ron Hanestad won the battle for third, as Nate Hauge and Travis Hazelton rounded out the top five.
It was George Richards in the WISSOTA Pure Stocks once again as he was beaten once in 2017 and has been untouched in 2018 at EVS. Nicholas Hazelton and Adam Pratt won the heats as the feature saw Lucas Kallenbach take the initial lead. A caution for debris slowed the action, but Kallenbach continued to lead over Dean Pronschinske as Adam Pratt overtook third. Pratt moved into second position as Richards entered the fray from his seventh starting spot. As Pratt challenged for the lead, his door fell off and the resulting debris caution relegated him to the rear of the field.
It was Richards getting a good restart as he swept past the leader and took over first. Andrew Hanson moved to second position as Pratt charged through the field to go side by side with Kallenbach for third. Hanson peaked under Richards for the lead as the white flag flew, but Richards secured the top spot on the final circuit and took the checkered flag. Hanson looked strong in second as well as Pratt in third. Kallenbach came home in fourth over Pronschinske in fifth.
The EVS Hornet heat was won by Jason Bauer as Dan Prissel dominated the feature. The lone caution flew for Chad Prissel losing a wheel, but the restart saw no changes. Dan Prissel led to the checkered flag over Scott Westaby ,as Jason Brauer won a side by side battle for third over Armond Love. Dean Butler came home in fifth.
The Eagle Valley Speedway will return to racing action on Sunday, June 10, 2018, as Haas, Inc. and Budweiser Night presented by Park Ridge Distributing sponsor the WISSOTA Pure Stocks, Street Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Super Stocks, Modifieds, and EVS Hornets. Oium Well Drilling and Oium Black Top will once again give away one bicycle each for both a boy and a girl just as they do every race night at the Eagle Valley Speedway!
