Doss Dominates In NorCal Legend Series Victory

The annual Redwood Acres Fair race took place this past Friday. Leon’s Car Care Center presented the evening’s event which featured the debut of the NorCal Legend Series to the 3/8-mile paved oval. Late models, bombers and mini stocks were also on tap.

Jeremy Doss lowered the track record for Legends with a blistering 17.433 time, beating his previous record by over a full tenth of a second. Heat race winners for the NorCal Legend Series were Tyler Krupa and Doss.

Doss led the strong 18-car field to the green and was never seriously challenged. The 35-lap main event was halted only once when Dannie Carpenter spun between turns one and two after getting into oil that had been laid down by Scott Taylor.

An incident on the last lap cost Landon Green a good finish as the leaders raced to the yellow and checkered flags. Jeremy Doss took the win over Cole Brown, Mike Doss, Cody Winchel and Luke Hall who was making his first start in a Legend car.

Brandon Barnwell was quickest in late model qualifying with a 15.839. Barnwell also won the heat race. The 45-lap late model main event featured a great battle for the lead between Luke Hall and Barnwell. It took Barnwell numerous laps to make the necessary run on Hall but he was eventually able to do it to take the lead. Barnwell’s margin over Hall was nearly three seconds when he crossed the finish line for the victory. Ryan Walters finished third followed by Nick Ford and Romeo Venza.

Qualifying for the bombers was paced by Doug Way with a time of 18.370. Way was also the winner of the 10-lap heat race. The start of the 30-lap main event got off to a bad start when Way and Tanisha Ratzlaff tangled down the backstretch sending Ratzlaff head-on into the wall. Thankfully Ratzlaff was unharmed.

Following the restart, brothers Tyler and Jordan Krupa has a nose-to-tail battle for the lead. Tyler was eventually able to pull away to a comfortable margin. He held on all the way to the finish to take his first main event win of 2023. Jordan Krupa was second over Way, Kadence Toland and Lori Brown.

Gary Klinetobe once again looked unstoppable in the mini stocks as he set fast time with a 18.517. Colton Kinsey took the spotlight in the heat race but Klinetobe was untouchable in the main event taking the win handily. Kinsey finished second while Nick Ford, Cole Peterson and Allison McCarty rounded out the top five.

The 2023 season continues Saturday July 8 with the Harper Motors Firecracker 100 featuring the late models. The Upstate Bombers will also be joining the Legends, mini stocks and roadrunners. More information is available at RacinTheAcres.com, on RAR’s Facebook page and Twitter @RacinTheAcres.
