Gaylord wins a banger by .020 at the line over Devilbiss.

Marshalltown, Iowa (July 18th, 2025)

After multiple weeks of no racing due to Mother Nature not cooperating, it was finally a beautiful Friday night at Marshalltown Speedway, America’s bucket list track, with 103 cars checked in across six IMCA-sanctioned classes. It was XTREME powered by Mediacom First Responders Night, along with Kids Night and a special appearance by the Muffler Pro’s 2-Person Cruisers.

First to the track were the IMCA Mod Lites presented by Drury Automotive. Colby Oberembt from Adel, IA, started on the pole with Seth Barajas from Grandview, IA, to Oberembt’s outside. Austin Gray charged from 7th and took the lead early on, never looked back, and held off Bryan Zhem, who slowly but surely worked his way up to 2nd after starting 9th. Colby Oberembt, Garrison Anderson, and Joel Huggins rounded out the top five.

Following the IMCA Mod Lites presented by Drury Automotive feature, it was time for the IMCA SportMods presented by Rugged Radios. Curt Smeins from Dike, IA, started on the pole, with Marshalltown, IA native Jenae Gustin starting on the outside. Gustin got out front early and navigated her way through lap traffic. Brayton Carter chased Gustin down, and the two battled it out, putting on a show for the fans in attendance. Gustin beat Carter to the line to secure the IMCA SportMods presented by Rugged Radios feature win. Kyle Olson, Brayden Shepherd, and Curt Smeins rounded out the top five.

Next up was the IMCA Sport Compacts presented by Hy-Vee. Tyler Fiebelkorn, a Stuart, IA native, rolled off on the pole, with Deep River, IA native Ryan Cheney to his outside. Eighth-place starter Spencer Roggentien worked his way through the field and quickly took the lead. Christian Grady navigated his way up to second but couldn’t catch Roggentien in time and settled for the runner-up spot. Blake Driscol, Michael Gardner, and Campbell Tressler rounded out the top five.

It was time for the IMCA Stock Cars feature presented by Knight Sanitation. Newton, IA native Austin Schuring started on the pole, with Ames, IA native Derek Reimer to his outside. Jonathan Logue led early on while Jimmy Gustin charged through the field and worked his way up to second. Some late yellows restacked the field. Gustin and Logue put on a clinic of a show filled with great side-by-side action and sliders. Gustin got the best of Logue and won the IMCA Stock Cars feature presented by Knight Sanitation. Austin Kaplan, Steve Meyer, and Tyler Pickett rounded out the top five.

Next to the track were the IMCA Hobby Stocks presented by Cappy’s Big 8 Tyre Center, geared up for 20 laps. Michael Cheney, a Deep River, IA native, rolled off from the pole with Des Moines, IA native Dylan Hill starting to his outside. Braden Gifford led early as the field went four and five wide behind him. Amid the chaos, Eric Knutson raced his way to the lead halfway through the 20-lap feature, but a few late cautions bunched the field back up. Kevin Sather threw his name into the mix and made some bold sliders to take the lead and drive away to secure the IMCA Hobby Stocks feature win presented by Cappy’s Big 8 Tyre Center.

After the IMCA Hobby Stocks feature, it was time for the IMCA Modifieds presented by Tire Demon by Love Tap. Zach Rawlins, a Kellogg, IA native, started on the pole with Ronn Lauritzen, a La Porte City, IA native, to his outside. Rawlins led early before Zane DeVilbiss threw a slider to get past and take the lead. DeVilbiss slowly pulled away, but Tripp Gaylord worked his way through the field. Late cautions re-bunched the field, setting up an exciting finish. Gaylord and DeVilbiss exchanged sliders like there was no tomorrow, and Gaylord edged DeVilbiss at the line by just .020 seconds to secure the IMCA Modified feature win presented by Tire Demon by Love Tap.

The night cap saw Corey Van Derwilt and Brett Maasdam win the 2 man cruiser featue.

Join us Friday July 25th for the Dale DeFrance Memorial as the Malvern Bank SLMR Late Models return along with IMCA Modifieds, Stock Cars, SportMods and Hobby Stocks. Pit Gates open at 4:30pm, Grandstands at 5:30pm and action starting at 6:30pm.
